About us

Bolton Model Railway Society is an active and enthusiastic group of modellers who meet on Monday and Thursday evenings. We started in April 2019 with 3 founding members, Mark, Tom and Alan. We had our first meeting in a little room in a social club, two weeks later we secured our first official club room on platform 5 of Bolton Railway Station where our membership grew from 3 to 15 in a few months.

In March 2020, Bolton Model Railway Society moved to its new premises in the Market Place Shopping centre in the heart of Bolton Town Centre. We now aim to grow as a club, build new and exciting layouts and host exhibitions.

Our members currently pay £10 per month or £120 for the full year.

The club operates both DC and DCC in gauges N, OO, O, G although we are actively seeking people with knowledge of N, O and G gauges. There is a small collection of books and magazines where members can have a read and chat over tea and biscuits.

We are a small community group that aims to improve modelling skills within model railways, we help people socialise and interact with other people. We are also aiming to help people with mental health problems, people with dementia and the ageing. We also want to encourage the younger generation to get involved with the hobby.
